Paperboy, Trevor Sorbie at Pride, Katie divorces (again) & Adele drops a hint

Great Escape

Last Wednesday saw the launch of The Great Escape music festival that showcases emerging artists from all over the world. Over 400 up and coming bands play in 35 Brighton venues. The hub this year is at the Speigeltent on Steine Gardens – now a Fringe festival stalwart and the perfect grimy venue to see a band. The band opening the festival were local lads Paperboy, fast becoming one of the hottest acts to emerge from the City – mark my words it won’t be long before the band will be signed and playing larger festivals! I watched the band with Madness guitarist Chris Foreman, who was equally impressed, and coming from one of the biggest British bands in our history that is good praise indeed. If you want to catch Paperboy’s next gig they will be appearing at the St Anne’s Wells Garden Festival on Saturday 17th May – get yourself a picnic and see this band!

Sorbie and Pride

We are delighted to say that hairdressing legend Trevor Sorbie will be a part of Brighton Pride 2014 as his Brighton salon are announced as Official Partners for this year’s Pride celebrations. The salon team will be a part of both the Pride parade and the Preston Park event on August 2. The wonderful Pride ambassador and cabaret legend Dolly Rocket (pictured here with Trevor Sorbie Brighton Salon Manager, Alison Stevens) popped into the Nile Street salon to seal the deal. Alison commented; “We are incredibly excited to be supporting Brighton Pride 2014. Pride is such an important event in the city that we felt we had to come on board to show our support for the great work the organisation does in raising awareness and funds for the LGBT community.”

Husband Number Three

Without doubt the hottest story of last week was the very public announcement by Katie Price that her marriage to Eastender bit-part player Kieran Hayler (husband number three) is over, after accusing him of having an affair. The reality TV personality and model posted the news on her Twitter account. The tweets made for shocking reading: “Sorry to say me and kieran are divorcing him and my best friend jane pountney bee having a full blown sexual affair for 7 months,” (sic) she wrote.

She went on to say: “No human being deserves this especially being 6 months pregnant. Worse pain in the world.” Katie then posted the following statement on her website the next day: “I appreciate most people will have seen my tweets on the subject of my marriage to Kieran. I make no apologies for them though it will be appreciated that, sending them immediately after Kieran confirmed to me what he had been doing for the last 7 months, those tweets were a sign of my heart breaking. That he was doing it with a close friend of nearly 20 years is hard to understand.

“This statement however is from my head, not my heart. I am appalled that someone I loved, trusted and believed in has behaved in this way. If he had so little respect for our relationship I would have hoped he would have thought about our child or the one that we have on the way.

“That he did not means he will no longer be part of my life. I will do all I can to ensure he maintains a relationship with his children should he want that.

“I am so grateful for the love of my children and family at this time.” Katie, now 35, has one child with Hayler – a son, Jett – who is nine months old.

Adele album hint

Brighton based songstress Adele has hinted that her much anticipated third album will be released later this year. After the massive, award-winning successes of 19 and 21 – the next album (which could be called 25) will be the first album since the birth of her son, Angelo. The Tottenham born singer dropped a massive hint about the album on her twitter feed, saying: “Bye Bye 25… see you again later in the year x.” I think we can take that as a pretty big hint about the title, don’t you?
