Brighton’s longest running Art Deco fair comes to Hove Town Hall this week

Decofairs

Decofairs, Brighton and Hove’s longest running Art Deco fair (since 1998) successfully returned to Hove Town Hall on Sunday 13 April 2014 under the new management of Chris Lau and Soman Balan, two experienced artists and event organisers, who also run the popular monthly Brighton Craft Fair (www.brightoncraft.co.uk).

Art Deco is all round you in Brighton and Hove – from Shoreham Airport in the West to Embassy Court on Hove Seafront to Gala Bingo Hall on Portland Road to Saltdean’s Lido and the Grand Ocean complex in
the East.

Art Deco has always been popular in our fashion-conscious city where style and elegance often go hand in hand.

Art Deco is an influential visual arts design style which first appeared in France and Belgium after World War I, flourishing internationally in the 1930s and 1940s before its popularity waned after World War II.
It is an eclectic style that combines ancient symbols and motifs with machine age imagery and materials. The style is often characterized by rich colours, bold geometric shapes, and ornamentation. During its heyday, Art Deco represented luxury, glamour, exuberance and faith in social and technological progress.

Decofairs is the perfect opportunity for Art Deco enthusiasts to browse and purchase high quality collectibles including period memorabilia, jewellery, ceramics, clothing and accessories, lighting and lamps, clocks, statuary, prints, glass and furniture.

Traders have been known to sell a stylish list of famous designers of the era including Lalique, Clarice Cliffe, Susie Cooper, Mappin and Webb, Erte and Cartier.

Decofairs provides traders with an ideal opportunity to sell and buy, to evaluate the local Art Deco market and to make new contacts. Decofairs prides itself on the high quality of its dealers, their reputations and
their goods.

Decofairs is now building on its history and prestige. Chris and Soman are ready to take on new challenges for its traders, visitors and customers. Their main priorities will be promoting Decofairs to a wider audience and attracting new dealers and enthusiasts and transforming the café area into a vintage tea room.

Chris and Soman look forward to welcoming you at Decofairs’ next event. Dates are already established for the year ahead on the following Sundays: 8 June, 10 August, 12 October and 14 December. Decofairs’ venue for 2014 will be that masterpiece of mid-twentieth century British Brutalist design, Hove Town Hall. Opening hours: 10am–4pm.
