Bomb disposal called out after gun haul and grenade found in Brighton
A bomb disposal unit were called to a house in Brighton after Sussex Police officers found a cache of weapons including a hand grenade today (Tuesday 1 July).
The force said: “Police officers got slightly more than they bargained for when they went to a house in Brighton to secure a few firearms.
“They discovered a haul of 30 rifles and 40 handguns at the home in Larkfield Way.
“The rifles had been decommissioned but many of the handguns were live and loaded.
“A World War Two hand grenade was also found in the house and the bomb disposal unit were called to make it safe.”
Sergeant Chris Lane said: “Let’s say it wasn’t our usual day at the office.
“We were told we might found two or three firearms at the house but were amazed to find 70.
“The late owner of them who lived at the house was obviously an avid gun collector.”
The firearms have been removed by officers and secured, Sussex Police said, and inquiries will be made into their origins.
