Joe McGann in Brighton, Hove’s Dora Bryan passes away at 91, V-Bites, & Frank’s flight

Former Brighton resident Joe McGann was spotted last week, back in his old stomping ground. It’s hardly surprising he was seen on North Street, considering he was in town starring in John Godber’s play April In Paris at the Theatre Royal Brighton all week.

Joining him on the esteemed boards was former Corrie star Shobna Gulati, with both of them receiving rave reviews for the show (see p20 for Latest 7’s own review).

Victory for v-bites
Owner of Brighton vegan cafe V-Bites, Heather Mills, is clearly on the ball as she was forced to recall some products from sale last week for not meeting regulations.

It was discovered that pots of yoghurt called “Wot, No Dairy?” were thought to contain traces of protein, so Heather – erring on the side of caution – decided to withdraw the product from the popular vegan cafe.

Bryony Barritt, customer liaison officer, said: “The exact cause or source of the contamination is still under investigation, but the trace quantities found do not pose any health risk. As a precaution, V-Bites Foods will not be supplying any more of these desserts until the source of contamination has been confirmed and the situation has been rectified.”

Goodbye, Dora
Sad news last week, as veteran actress and Hove resident Dora Bryan sadly passed away. The actress, who was 91, was best known for her roles in TV comedy Last of the Summer Wine and Absolutely Fabulous starring alongside Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley. The tiny but feisty actress also won a well deserved Best Actress BAFTA for her role in the groundbreaking film of its time – A Taste of Honey.

As soon as the news broke, several tributes on twitter appeared from actors including Corrie star Wendi Peters, Only Fools And Horses star John Challis, and her Brighton based agent David Hill.

But the Dora I remember will be the life and soul of any party or event – bringing her amazing humour and warmth to all she met and worked with. We will miss you, Dora.
