A Night at the Cinema in 1914

This compilation from the BFI attempted to recreate what a night at the cinema in 1914 would have been like, and what shone through was how good quality comedy is ageless. The highlight was Fred Evans’ bizarre comic creation ‘Pimple’ who dealt with villainy under the sea in a cleverly daft surreal way that fans of Monty Python or Wes Anderson would still enjoy today. Historical footage, brilliantly creative animation from Lancelot Speed, some early Charlie Chaplin, slapstick gurning in ‘Daisy Doodad’s Dial’ and much more rounded off a great night for film, history or comedy buffs.
