Celebcity: Nick Cave’s new film, Drakes Of Brighton, Tour Of Britain, Ace Cafe bike reunion, celebs about town
Life is…
Cult Aussie singer and Brighton resident, Nick Cave, is riding high after releasing his newest effort, this time a film called 20,000 Days. Filmed in and around Brighton, the movie documents a day in the life of the singer.
Highlights including driving up and down Hove seafront with pop diva Kylie Minogue (with whom he collaborated on hit song ‘Where the Wild Roses Grow’) and a great scene in which he plays live with his band The Bad Seeds at the King Alfred Centre.
Nick was also out and about in the Lanes last week, stopping off to buy some art in Art Republic on Bond Street: see our exclusive picture. Nick acquired the print entitled ‘Life is Crap’ by Magda Archer, the artist wife of none other than comedian and TV Burp presenter, Harry Hill.
Let’s hope life doesn’t imitate art, Nick, as your life looks pretty rosy at the moment!
Happy Birthday, Drakes
Still on the subject of Kylie – we would like to extend extra special birthday wishes to the pint-sized pop princess’ Brighton hotel of choice, Drakes Of Brighton on Marine Parade, as the boutique haven celebrates a decade of decadence.
We have many, many happy memories of the launch event that JBPR attended and helped to organise ten years ago. We wish Carla, Richard and the team all the best for the next ten! Make sure you pop in and have a cocktail to celebrate with them. www.drakesofbrighton.com
Tour Of Britain
Brighton seafront was dominated by lots of bikes last weekend, as Saturday saw the incredible Tour Of Britain race shoot through East Sussex, ending up on Madeira Drive. Lucky spectators managed to catch sight of the pelaton as it flashed down the seafront and saw Olympic hero Sir Bradley Wiggins cross the finish line. I wish I could say it was a dream finish for Bradley, but he was beaten by a German!
A Wheely Good Show
Sunday then became an invasion of the motorbiking crowd as the legendary Ace Cafe reunion revved into town. I loved walking up
and down spotting some – quite incredible – two wheeled beauties. There was even a bike themed on the Bayeux tapestry. I’ve never quite seen anything like it.
Spotted!
Spotted (by eagle-eyed Latest 7 reader David Watkins): Blackadder star and Time Team presenter Tony Robinson, who was having his photo taken at the war memorial on the Steine.
Spotted!
Spotted: Steps lead singer and exercise DVD supremo, Claire Richards, who was filming on Brighton seafront, at the marina and in The Lanes for Good Morning Britain.
Rabbit Rabbit
And finally, we bring you news that, after a month of deliberation, Katie Price has decided on a name for her newborn daughter – her second child with husband Kieran Hayler. The model and businesswoman has named her new baby girl… Bunny!
