Brighton man sentenced in £1k shoplifting case

A Brighton man who shoplifted camera equipment worth almost £1,000 has been sentenced by a court.

James David Danks, 38, of Clifton Street, Brighton, was given a 12-month conditional discharge by magistrates.

Danks, also known as David Gary Ball, was also ordered to pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and a £15 victim surcharge.

The money will be deducted from his benefits.

Danks pleaded guilty to theft when he appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court.

The court was told that he stole camera equipment worth £969.97 when he went into the branch of Maplins in London Road, Brighton, on Monday 28 July.
