BREMF: Cries of London – Fieri Consort

I was ready to make allowances for these eight young singers who had only 15 minutes rehearsal in the dry, informal acoustic, but there was no need. So what that they could barely hear each other or even much of their own voices? The balance was so level and the delivery really clear and confident. The jumbled cries of London’s street-vendors, low-life and street-walkers can very easily sound disjointed and random, but in this performance they made good musical sense, and you could hear every word. The contrast of some jolly catches and sombre madrigals made for a delightful programme.
