University of Sussex chief on why £500 million masterplan needed

The University of Sussex has unveiled grand designs as it looks to become a world leader in higher education.

The masterplan will see £500 million of investment, building student halls and creating more than 2,000 jobs.

But the plans hit a snag when Brighton and Hove City Council rejected planning permission for the student halls.

With the university admitting it will now appeal the decision, registrar John Duffy told our very own Frank Le Duc why the expansion mattered.
