Firefighters rescue woman from blaze in Telscombe Cliffs

Firefighters rescued a 77-year-old woman from a blaze at a block of flats in Telscombe Cliffs yesterday morning (Wednesday 21 January).

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said two crews from Newhaven tackled the blaze at Golby Court in South Coast Road. Neighbouring flats were evacuated.

The pensioner suffered burns and choking and was treated at the scene before being taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton by the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

The fire was reported shortly before 8.40am. It is believed to have started in the pensioner’s lounge.

An investigation has started into the cause of the blaze.
