The Impossible Gentlemen
This award-winning quartet of world class jazz musicians, who have worked with many of the genre’s all-time greats, came together to play as an ensemble and, after some early sound problems were resolved, delivered a stunning two hour set of original pieces. All four were exemplary, but the American drummer Adam Nussbaum and Stoke-born Gwilym Simcock keyboard player stole the show: Simcock’s dazzling, funky dexterity a fine match for Nussbaum’s explosive stick work. US bassist Steve Rodby got to shine in the second half and Mike Walker’s Metheny-esque guitar stylings were a delight throughout. A master class in 21st Century jazz fusion.
