Heaven Adores You
A special event screening as part of the Doc’n’Roll festival, ‘Heaven Adores You’ was a relaxed, contemplative documentary delving into the life and music of Elliott Smith. As director Nickolas Rossi mentioned in the Skype Q+A after the film, he chose to focus on the music rather than Smith’s death in 2003 which results in some real gems for fans such as different takes and songs recorded during Elliott’s childhood. The film focussed heavily on his early career which was interesting but more analytical insight into the albums might have given the documentary more substance. A treat for fans but unfortunately little to draw newcomers in unlike bigger rock docs like ‘Searching For Sugarman’.
