The Bluebell Railway, a preserved steam train line is on Metrobus route 270. Enjoy the atmosphere of this well established line, with its superbly preserved steam engines and beautiful coaching stock.
The ‘Bluebell’ is home to the largest collection of Southern Railway locomotives in the UK! The 22-mile round trip provides an authentic steam-era experience thanks to the hard work done by the volunteers who run the railway.
Steam trains on the Bluebell Railway run through the heart of the Sussex Weald between East Grinstead and Sheffield Park.
Sheffield Park Garden, a National Trust property is a stone’s throw from the Sheffield Park Station. The beautiful landscape garden with design elements from Capability Brown are ideal to stroll around or have a picnic.

Getting there
The Bluebell Railway is on Metrobus Route 270, the service runs hourly Monday to Saturday from Churchill Square and Old Steine – full times are available at metrobus.co.uk/270. The journey takes 1 hour and 45 minutes to East Grinstead Station where you can pick up the Bluebell Railway. On Saturday’s the 270 calls at Horsted Keynes Station, another of the calling points on the Bluebell Railway, this takes 1 hour and 15 minutes from Brighton. The bus passes through the beautiful South Downs Park and skirts Ashdown Forest as well.
