The Oklahoman rock ‘n’ roller was back in town for the second time this year and given tonight’s explosive performance he’ll be asked back again soon. Putting his own spin on the classic rockabilly sound, backed by an exceptional band that included Doug Corcoran on honking sax and guitar, JD’s delivery was somewhere between Little Richard and Eddie Cochran. A change in pace brought the Louis Prima-style ‘Your Love’ followed by a heavier Link Wray-influenced number and new ballad ‘Precious’. Ray Jacildo’s keyboard skills rivalled Jerry Lee’s on the red-hot finale that included their rocking signature song ‘North Side Gal’.
