Thousands to descend on the city for annual London to Brighton bike ride
This weekend thousands of cyclists will make the journey from the for the annual London to Brighton bike ride which celebrates it’s 40th year.
All the riders taking part this Sunday are raising money for the British Heart Foundation.
The event will impact roads and rail in Brighton.
Buses
Route 2
-Start from/terminate at South Woodingdean Shops between 1300 and 1730. A shuttle service will be in operation between Rottingdean and South Woodingdean Shops.
Route 23 – SUSPENDED
Route 24 – SUSPENDED until 2000
Route 25
-Between 0930 and 1900, buses towards the Universities will follow their normal route, but will run between Old Steine and the Universities only.
On reaching Brighton University, buses will continue to Falmer Station/A27, returning to the City Centre non stop* to St. Peters Church via the By-Pass, Carden Avenue, Braybon Avenue, Surrenden Road, left into Preston Drove, right into Beaconsfield Villas then London Road. * Buses will stop at Matalan in Carden Avenue.
Routes 26/46
-Until 1900/1930, buses will terminate at, and start from, Hollingbury. Coldean will not be served. A special timetable will apply. Some Route 46 buses will terminate at Cuckmere Way instead of Hollingbury ASDA. Owing to anticipated heavy traffic in Ditchling Road, southbound buses will be diverted via Stanford Avenue, Beaconsfield Road and London Road. Route 46 will operate in two sections – Southwick to Old Steine and Churchill Square to Hollingbury.
Routes 28/29 – buses continue as normal, change of route required at Lewes Road Sainsburys.
Routes 48/49 – SUSPENDED between 0930 and 1830/1900
A Shuttle service will operate every 30 minutes between Lower Bevendean and East Moulsecoomb via The Avenue. Passengers for the City Centre will need to change at The Avenue/Lewes Road to or from Route 25.
Route 49 – AMENDED TIMETABLE
Route 77
-This service will start and finish in Old Steine, with buses towards Devils Dyke operating via North Street, Upper North Street and Regent Hill to their normal route at Churchill Square.
Route 79 – SUSPENDED
This service is suspended all day.
Coast Road Routes 12/12A, 13X, 14/14B, 27
Between 0930 and 1900, buses from the Seafront and Kemp Town will be diverted up Rock Gardens and into Edward Street to reach Old Steine. Eastbound coast road buses will run via St.James’s Street and Lower Rock Gardens.
On all services, passengers may travel via Falmer to reach the City Centre without extra charge.

Cycles will not be permitted on any Southern or Gatwick Express services from the start of service until 1200.
