Spooky Men’s Chorale

Spooky Men’s Chorale is an Australian male voice choir with a difference. Like a fleet of human Model T Fords, the black-clad, sixteen-piece group took to the stage en-hirsute-masse wearing a variety of silly hats and led the audience on a musical journey that ping-ponged from the surreal and the silly to the sublime. With tongues firmly in cheeks, the group explored modern masculinity through song and slapstick humour. The repertoire ranged from humorous odes to tools and eyebrows to Tom Waits, Prince, Georgian polyphonic harmonies, an exquisite musical rendition of a Tennyson poem and a dervish-themed homage to the Bee Gees. The timing, both comic and harmonic, was spot on and the show an infectiously daft family-friendly romp.
