What The Butler Saw
Joe Orton would have hated this night. Here we have the British establishment, (middle class people from Eastbourne) laughing their socks off at his play. His play was designed to outrage the establishment and expose the hypocrisy of the British. He ruthlessly examines our attitude to acceptable and unacceptable perversions. His satirical swipes are just as affective today as it was over 40 years ago. What he created is no mere farce, but a parody of a farce. And it is delivered with breathless energy by a talented cast. A funny night out with a serious point to it.
