Lee Nelson – Suited and Booted

Simon Brodkin’s crowd-pleasing chav character Lee Nelson’s shtick is an acquired taste. Performing to an audience that lapped up every word, the older yet not-quite grown up lad about town discussed fatherhood, chocolate body paint and immigration, punctuated with casually brutal asides to fans. This was all well and good if low-hanging fruit was to your taste. The odd funny punchline and decent slapstick performance didn’t make up for golden satirical opportunities shunned in favour of lowest common denominator guffaws. Bullying banter throughout and a particularly harsh treatment of an errant audience member left an oddly awkward feeling for this writer, at least.
