Jason Donovan
It was, as they say, a game of two very distinct halves. The first half scraped a slew of early ’90s tracks:’When You Come Back To Me’,’RSVP’ and a nod to Jason’s loincloth-wearing days with Joseph and his Technicolor Dreamcoat. The quiet moments between tracks were filled with inexplicable drunk-uncle-at-a-wedding jokes which left me feeling confused and a little bit dirty at the interval.
Thank goodness for the second half – Jason, complete with youthful costume change, returned to the stage to the glorious opening chords of ‘Too Many Broken Hearts’ and proceeded to charge through his debut album track by track. This half was his comfort zone and the audience’s. Jovial and high spirited, exactly how ’80s revivals should be.
