The Ex

The Dutch experimentalists really proved their worth and showed why their Brighton shows are always so highly anticipated. Founder member Terrie Hessels’ guitar made sounds as if the whole instrument was made of metal, singer Arnold doubled as lead guitarist and Andy Moor used his Fender as a metal grinding bass. Drummer Kat took lead vocals on ‘Addis Hum’, featuring Burundi rhythms and ‘Top Of My Lungs’, possibly the heaviest folk song ever. The closing numbers were classic punk funk and the ecstatic crowd called them back twice. Pure visceral entertainment with great support from Far East futurists Bamboo.
