Luka Okros (piano)

Debussy’s enchanting ‘Children’s Corner’ evokes the charm of childhood; Beethoven’s imposing ‘Waldstein’ sonata is always popular and gives stature to any programme; Liszt’s extravagantly flamboyant ‘Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2’ is a sure-fire way to win audience approval. What’s not to like?
Okros played all the notes, very carefully and often at breath-taking speed but with such stifling gravitas that we might have been mistaken for an examination adjudicator or competition jury rather than an audience waiting to be entranced, delighted and amazed. His crowd-pleasing programme had all the components of a great success but he rather kept them to himself.
