Comedy: Laughter on a bootstring
Having a good time out doesn’t have to cost the Earth, if you’re feeling the mid-month pinch. And you don’t have to compromise on quality either.
Wednesday evening sees award-winning writer/producer Henry Normal (Mrs Merton, The Royle Family, Gavin & Stacey) return to poetry and comedy after nearly 20 years of running one of the country’s most successful production companies. This is a recording for the BBC, so tickets are free, although limited so you need to apply to the Komedia’s website, but with these bittersweet musings on life, family and the events that have shaped Normal, this is bound to be an interesting and engaging evening.
Sunday night sees a line-up of eight local acts, including multi-award finalist Hannah Brackenbury over at Smiley Sunday in its new home of Doctor Brightons. Literally cheap as chips at £3.
And Monday sees free Edinburgh previews from Jo Neary and Fraser Geesin. Quality professionals sharpening up those shows.
A Normal Family, Wednesday 15 June, 7.30pm, Komedia, free but ticketed; Smiley Sunday, Sunday 19 June, 7.30pm, Doctor Brightons, £3;
