Made in Dagenham
Made in Dagenham is the successful feminist film turned into an unsuccessful feminist musical whose West End run only lasted 6 months. There’s a reason for that, the musical doesn’t really contain any memorable numbers and the characterisations are shallow and at times quite crass. Don’t get me wrong, the lead members of the cast are very good and there isn’t anything bad to say about the Rattonians’ staging. It’s the writing itself that I have a problem with. I should be inspired by the message, not disappointed with the shoddy script. If the aim is to actually achieve equality, then surely women deserve better material than this?
