Holes
This modern day dark Lord-Of-The-Flies-style comedy penned by Tom Basden (writer of Plebs and Fresh Meat) was delightfully served, with the theatre company’s attention to detail suspending disbelief from the moment we stepped over the threshold. Colleagues sparky Ian, grumpy Gus, self-centred Marie, along with teen Erin, are the only survivors from a plane crash, with office planning and teenage passive aggression their strongest momentum to adapt to their surroundings. The cast were splendid in balancing the nuances of their baser identities stealthily emerging with the cleverly scripted humour, leading the audience to be complicit in their corruptions. The set was finely assembled, leaving the line between stage and audience deafly uncomfortably blurred. No punches were pulled, and the performances were all the more admirable for it, each distinctly sharp and convincing. A highly impressive night of immersive and thought-provoking theatre, tickling the darkest of our funny bones.
