BREMF LIVE – Consone Quartet
This Classical quartet offered just one work, Haydn’s ‘Sunrise’ Quartet. As winter begins to tell, we appreciated a touch of Austrian sun because in an afternoon of Renaissance and Baroque music this was a happy contrast. Their gut strings took full advantage of the generous acoustic and the performance glowed with an excellent balance of sound. Whereas other performers used ingenuity and thorough research to get variety into their programmes, Consone Quartet trusted Papa Haydn because his masterpiece needs no tinkering. I look forward to hearing their performances of Mozart and Beethoven, but perhaps these won’t be part of BREMF.
