Think gift shop and you could be forgiven for picturing tacky postcards, souvenirs and sticks of rock. After all this is Brighton, the premiere seaside resort in the world.

But when Peter O’Brien and his partner Eddie Martinez came to Brighton a year ago after years of living in Los Angeles, they knew that they wanted to do something different with their lives and their careers. And they certainly have.

Simply the Best is a stylish emporium filled with delightful gifts to suit all occassions and all pockets – and none of it is in any way tacky. That’s not to say that there are no fun items, far from it.

But where they have excelled is in sourcing stylish gifts for men, women and babies. The babygros wrapped to look like cup-cakes are the cutest thing we have seen in some time.

There are personal gifts, gifts for the home and lovely soft furnishings including amazing embroidered cushions with a royal theme. In fact they have a stunning range of royal wedding gifts to celebrate the prince’s forthcoming marriage.
Top of the list though are the beautiful leather bound books and the stunning designs from the classic Stelton range.

With prices starting at under £6 there is something for every pocket; it’s an ideal place for kids to pick up an affordable present
for a mum, dad or grandparent, and there are lots of small items like hand-crafted scented candles that would make delicious gifts for friends and family. It’s not huge as such, yet it could easily earn the title of Brighton’s smallest department store.
