Episode 26: Brighton Music CIty
Brighton is now universally regarded as a music city. The industry’s
main festival The Great Escape takes place in Brighton and our clubs
are cutting edge cool! So this show celebrates the rise of Music City
Brighton.
White Mink is now one of the hottest clubs in the UK and Val Aviv
listens to his records and talks to Nick Hollywood about how he turned
scratchy old 78s into ultra cool modern electro swing in his club and
label Freshly Squeezed. Billie Rae and Sussex Swing add some fiery
burlesque glamour and divine dance skills to Nick’s electro torch
songs.
Jo Harman is the raunchiest girl blues singer since Janis and her band
are equally talented. No dull introspection here, Jo is riveting to
watch.
And talking of amazing bands Brian Wilson loves them and it’s easy to
see why when Diana Frangi meets The Brighton Beach Boys and chats to
arranger and composer Glen Richardson and singer Ralph Brown better
known perhaps as star actor of Withnail and I, The Crying Game and
Star Wars.
We take a look at why Echo Rain are literally rocking The House Of
Commons with our reporter Mike Weatherley MP and lastly we have a
preview of Brighton company Convict Films blockbuster movie The Wrong
Turn directed by Hanover resident Gabriel Howard and starring Matt
Whistler. It’s got great music in it in case you’re wondering.
Val couldn’t stop saying amazing and now you know why!
