Brighton shop robbed for second time in three days

A shop in Bevendean has been robbed for a second time in three days.

Detectives are investigating after a knifepoint struggle at the Happy Shopper in Upper Bevendean Avenue in Brighton just before 4.40pm yesterday (Thursday 13 October).

The struggle started when a man stole four cans of lager and the shopkeeper tried to stop him.

The thief pulled a knife, threatened the shopkeeper then ran off. The shopkeeper was unhurt.

The suspect was described as white, aged about 19 to 20 years old, about 5ft 5in tall, with blond hair and of medium build.

He was wearing a purple t-shirt or polo shirt with a black jumper with no hood.

Detectives do not believe that this offence was connected with a previous robbery at the same store on Tuesday evening (11 October) when cash was taken.

Inquiries are continuing into that offence, committed by a man of different description.

A 32-year old local woman arrested on suspicion of involvement in that robbery was later released without charge.

Nor is the knifepoint raid yesterday being linked to the robbery at Park Road newsagents in Coldean on Wednesday (12 October).

The two earlier robberies are, though, being treated as linked.

Anyone with information about any of the three robberies is asked to contact Sussex Police on 0845 6070999.
