Teenager knocked over trying to cross A27 at Falmer

A teenage pedestrian suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car when crossing the A27 at Falmer this morning.

The 17-year-old was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with injuries that were described as serious but not life threatening.

He is believed to have suffered a broken leg and dislocated hip after being clipped as he tried to cross the eastbound carriageway.

The accident happened at about 5.40am and the eastbound side of the road was closed until after 8am, with diversions having been put in place.

Sussex Police said that anyone who saw the accident or who saw the teenager shortly before the accident should contact traffic officers on 0845 6070999.
