Court remands Brighton and Hove ‘fancy dress robberies’ suspect

A man charged with holding up almost a dozen betting shops appeared before Brighton magistrates this morning (Monday 24 October).

Martin Reilly, 53, of no fixed address, is suspected of being the fancy dress raider who donned a range of disguises when carrying out the series of armed robberies.

Reilly is accused of stealing £2,780 from Ladbrokes in Dyke Road, Brighton, on Monday 11 July.

He was also charged with an attempted robbery at William Hill in George Street, Hove, on Thursday 7 July.

He did not enter a plea.

In total Reilly was charged with 21 offences including nine charges of robbery, two counts of attempted robbery, eight counts of having a firearm and two of having an offensive weapon.

He is alleged to have stolen more than £23,000 in the hold-ups which took place across the South of England.

Magistrates remanded Reilly in custody and sent his case to Lewes Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on Friday 6 January.
