Brighton rents are among Britain’s least affordable says survey

Brighton is one of the least affordable places in Britain, according to a survey published today.

Affordability was measured by comparing average rent as a percentage of average income.

The survey, by flat sharing website EasyRoommate.co.uk, used information compiled by the Office for National Statistics and adverts on the Easyroommate website.

Brighton was eighth in the top ten least affordable towns and cities in Britain, with average monthly net income said to be £1,737 and average flat share rents of £420.

The affordability rating of 24.2 per cent compared with 18.2 per cent in Newport – the most affordable – and 26.8 per cent in the least affordable town, Poole in Dorset.

The UK average was 21.9 per cent, with rent of £365 coming out of a take home pay packet of £1,665.
