Celebcity with Jo Brooks: Brighton actress joins True Blood
Brighton actress joins True Blood, Wuthering Heights star styled by Mark Woolley, plus actress Julie Graham and music legend Glen Campbell
The UK bites back
Congratulations to beautiful Brightonian Lucy Griffiths for being cast in hit US drama True Blood. Season 5 will see Lucy sinking her teeth into the show’s sexy script in her new racy role as the vampiric sister of main character Eric Northman. It’s not Lucy’s first TV role however; she’s previously being cast as Lady Marian in Robin Hood on the BBC, as well as appearing in Brighton based teen-drama Sugar Rush, but True Blood will see her first success Stateside. It’s great to see local talent hitting the big time; we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled – and necks covered – for any sign of a homecoming!
The original Rhinestone cowboy
My little dog Bruce was being much admired last week by none other than Glen Campbell himself. Having bumped into his daughter in The Lanes, I was introduced to my favourite country music star before he took to the stage in Brighton that evening. As always, Bruce was the star of the show, but we had a great little chat and I was pleased to see him looking so well. I wish him the best of luck in the rest of his tour (which sadly may be a farewell tour before he retires from the music industry)!
Reaching new heights
Brighton may be the place for shabby chic but sometimes we need to look glam – so it’s good to know that our local hairdressers are some of the finest out there! Mark Woolley, Creative Director at Electric Hairdressing in Ship Street, was recently called upon by Nichola Burley to create a do’ for the BFI premiere of Wuthering Heights in London. The actress, who plays Isabella Linton in the film adaptation, dropped into Mark’s hot seat for a cut, colour and blow dry – as you can see, it was more sleek and shiny than Kate Bush(y)!
Model behaviour
Here in the office we are ANTM, BNTM, CNTM (basically any ‘Next Top Model’) addicts. RuPaul’s Drag Race has also been a firm JBPR favourite, so we’re hugely excited to hear that Brighton is getting in on the action with the launch of ‘Brighton’s Next Top Condom’. In the run up to World AIDS Day (1 December), HIV and sexual health charity Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) has launched the new campaign as part of their Informed Passions project which looks to find new ways to support the sexual health of gay and bisexual men in Brighton and Hove. The four brands in the running are Mates Skyn, Mates Aquafusion, Mates Ultrathin, and Pasante Sensiva. The most popular brand, to be announced in the New Year, will become the Terrence Higgins Trust’s condom of choice for distribution in Brighton and Hove. If they’re looking for someone to take the Tyra role, look no further – we’ve even got a dedicated Miss J and Mr J in the office! To request a Brighton’s Next Top Condom sampler pack, men should visit THT’s centre at 61 Ship Street, Brighton, BN1 1AE.
