Kasabian

A big band, a big venue (for Brighton) and they did great. Tough and punchy but not without a couple of weak moments in the middle, they played a generous mix of old and new material. The crowd was lively and energetic singing along with all the big hits, and the band handled this well, interacting with us to maximum effect. If I had one criticism it would be that lead singer Tom Meighan is starting to look like he’s styled himself on Bono – not removing his sunglasses throughout the set. Although this was counteracted by band mate Sergio Pizzorno who appeared to have an owl in the hood of his parka. How rock & roll. Unsurprisingly, they saved the anthemic 2009 hit ‘Fire’ for the finale, when everyone in there (balconies included) got on their feet, hands in the air and blew the roof off the Brighton Centre. A fantastic evening and a great start to their UK tour.
