A Gigglestock Comedy Christmas

The scent of mulled wine, a scattering of crackers and a malfunctioning Christmas CD helped guitar-toting Gigglestock compere Jim McDonnell set the Yuletide tone this evening, as did a few mislaid office party casualties. Among a half dozen opening acts, Alex Petrovic’s football fandom and Chris Stewart’s wheat-intolerant intolerance stood out, while Mark Allen’s rapid, raging routines showed him ready for headlining status. Tonight’s deserved bill topper was the unfazably calm Adam Smith, whose deadpan manner allowed him to deliver some morbid material without cruelty. The welcoming intimacy of the basement venue added to the night’s success.
