Decision due on Portslade school’s £12m extension

A decision is expected next week on £12 million plans to extend the Chalky Road site of the Portslade Aldridge Community Academy.

The aim is to bring the sixth form on to the same site as the main school which was formerly known as Portslade Community College.

The Aldridge Foundation, which sponsors the academy, will learn a week tomorrow (Wednesday 14 December) whether it has planning permission to build the sixth form extension.

This week, on Thursday (8 December), Brighton and Hove City Council is expected to take the next steps in the process of winning formal government approval. This is needed to release the £12 million needed to pay for the project.

The application for the money from the Department for Education will be made only if planning permission is granted.
