Brighton and Hove pub food wins praise

A Brighton chef has earned three entries in a Michelin guide weeks after a Hove pub picked up another award.

Ben McKellar, who runs the Gingerman Group with his wife Pamela, is celebrating the inclusion of three of his eateries in the Michelin Eating Out In Pubs guide for 2012.

The Ginger Pig in Hove Street, Hove, the Ginger Dog in College Place, Kemp Town, and the Ginger Fox in Albourne, between Poynings and Henfield, all won praise from Michelin inspectors.

Mr McKellar, who also runs the Gingerman restaurant in Norfolk Square, was praised for his achievement by City College Brighton and Hove. He trained at City College.

Leroy Clarke, City College’s curriculum team leader for catering and hospitality, said: “Ben’s always been a great ambassador for catering at City College. He provides a fantastic role model to our current students when it comes to his work ethic, ambition and sheer culinary imagination.”

The Foragers gastro pub on the corner of Stirling Place and Connaught Terrace has been awarded an AA Rosette.

The venue, which celebrated its fifth anniversary in the summer, is one of fewer than a dozen venues in Brighton and Hove judged worthy of the accolade.
