CAROLINE LUCAS Green MP for Brighton Pavilion
“My first full year as Brighton Pavilion MP has been an incredibly busy and
eventful one. Among many highlights were starting a debate, with the
backing of the city’s Chief Superintendent, on drug and alcohol policy, organising a seminar on the issue for local stakeholders, and also securing council support for a strategy to prevent violence against women in the city.
“Since over 5,000 households live in fuel poverty in Brighton Pavilion alone,
I’ve played a key role on Parliament’s Energy Bill committee, proposing
measures to increase the affordability of energy efficiency measures and
create jobs, and suggesting Brighton as an ideal location for the new Green
Investment Bank. “Bringing the Culture Secretary to visit Brighton’s Digital Festival and standing up for local language schools in the face of visa changes have also been important. I was delighted to support Brighton’s successful bid for a new local TV station, and pleased to be invited to
speak at a number of schools events in the city.”
