Royal Pavilion & Museums Foundation raffle
Cllr Bill Randall, leader of Brighton & Hove City Council, drew the Royal Pavilion & Museums Foundation Christmas raffle. The charity appeal aims to raise £10,000 to support Charlotte, the Forgotten Princess – an exhibition opening at the Royal Pavilion in March 2012, devoted to the short life of George IV’s only child. The Royal Pavilion & Museums Foundation is a registered charity. It helps to raise funds to support the Royal Pavilion & Museums. The Foundation aims to conserve this unique part of our cultural heritage so that it continues to inspire, enrich and illuminate our culture. It relies on supporters to help safeguard the future of the Royal Pavilion &
Museums. Through membership, donations and gifts it raises funds to conserve and protect the Royal Pavilion, purchase important works of art, support learning and education programmes and bring the very best art and culture to Brighton & Hove.

Blanc de Blanc fashion show
Students at City College Brighton & Hove hosted a spectacular fashion show on 15 December 2011, ‘Blanc de Blanc’, at the College’s Main Hall on Pelham Street. They showed off their unique work on the catwalk in a collaborative fashion show which featured stunning creations with themes ranging from the historic (Ancient Egyptian and Victorian) to youth cults (Mod and Punk). The event was also a fundraiser for local charity Rockinghorse.
The students were to design and create costumes and headwear pieces purely out of paper were given two weeks to complete it. Emma Harrington, City College’s Visual Arts Team Leader said: “It was a real buzz for us to watch the transformation from the students originally conceiving the piece, consolidating it and finally all their efforts culminating in this performance.” Words and photos: Diana Frangi

Torvil & Deanthemed party
Brighton based Meerkat Works, a company that plans and buys advertising campaigns across all forms of media, held a Torvil and Dean themed party down at the Royal Pavilion ice rink on 14 December 2011. There was a prize for the best dressed, the chance to get out on the ice or enjoy or simply sit back and take in the sights from the wonderful heated bar.

We want Falmer…and we got it!
Stripe Publishing was proud to announce the launch of their latest book, We Want Falmer! at Dick’s Bar at The American Express Community Stadium on 15 December 2011. We Want Falmer!, by Paul Hodson and Stephen North, chronicles the 14 years after Albion’s do-or-die draw at Hereford United in 1997, summer that saw the end of a two-year struggle by the club’s fans to save
their club from extinction after the chairman had sold the Goldstone
Ground, with no new stadium in place, leaving the club homeless. The book is available at the Albion Shop in Queens Road and the Stadium.
