Brighton author Peter James is first patron of Whitehawk Inn

Crime writer Peter James has become the first patron of the Whitehawk Inn.

The former pub in Whitehawk Road, Brighton, is home to various educational courses, including creative writing. It is also the base for the Whitehawk Wordsmiths writing group.

The bestselling author, who has written a series of Brighton-based crime thrillers including Dead Man’s Grip, said: “I am thrilled and honoured to have become patron of a charity so very close to my heart.

“I have found so much solace, joy and education through creative writing throughout my life – both as an author and a reader.

“This is a great opportunity for me and I will do all I can to further the progress made at The Whitehawk Inn.” 

Before Christmas he also visited the learning resource centre used by street cleaners, dustmen and parks and gardens staff at the Hollingdean depot.

The learning centre has helped dozens of staff improve their reading and writing skills.
