Film: A Monster in Paris 3D (U)

Director: Bibo Bergeron

A French film with a mostly American voice cast to feed the kiddies’ brains with creative ideas. Yay! After all of the Oscar-fodder aiming high for recognition and age group (The Artist notwithstanding – another mostly French film) it’s good to find something in our cineplexes for the younger audiences to enjoy.

Set in Paris in 1910, this tells the tale of a shy projectionist who joins forces with an inventor to accidentally create Franc – a monster with a fabulously terrifying talent for music. Obviously this means that there are politicians and bureaucrats after their new beastly friend for their own nefarious reasons – enter the evil mayor commissioner Maynott.

Luckily they have the perfectly charming and gutsy cabaret singer Lucille on their side to help good (hopefully) triumph. Can the pals really keep their animated creation safe and musically happy in this early 20th century city? Cripes, you can fairly taste the peril. Featuring the vocal talents of Vanessa Paradis, Adam Goldberg and the singing acrobatics of a certain Sean Lennon.

Released Friday 27 January
Showing at Odeon and Cineworld
