Review: Sea Monsters 2 – Restlesslist, Nullifier, Speak Galactic, DA-10

The strands of Sea Monsters’ fourth installment were united by a fondness for good-humoured synth experimentalism, but beyond that this was an unclassifiable, diverse night. DA-10’s hammering hardware bolted old school beats to gaming tones, bright and loud. Speak Galactic’s stunning watercolour wash of tuneful psychedelic naivety was tonight’s great revelation, an extremely promising talent. Spilling press-ganged members onto the floor, the resurgent Nullifier’s blisteringly brief set of electro hardcore found the crowd’s energy peaking. Restlesslist’s bizarre return saw the expanded, inspired band accompany writer Mark Campbell’s desert island yarn with shifting pop exotica and an exhausted Casablanca finale.
