Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra

We spent a grandiose evening with the vast Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, under the powerful conductorship of Marin Alsop. Her commanding presence kept control of three towering, thunderous and complex compositions, bringing out the subtleties and intricacies of the brilliantly orchestrated pieces.

Ranging in mood, tempo and resonance, accomplished young pianist Denis Kozhukhin gave a full-blooded, vivid and ‘chameleon-like’ performance of the 24 variations in Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini.

To round the evening off we were treated to an epic and powerfully eloquent rendition of Shostakovich’s Symphony no5 in D minor. Very grand!
