IOU Comedy

IOU Comedy has a good reputation for taking a gamble comedically speaking, and as a discerning booker getting the goods from some top local comedians. This evening was a classic case in point, as Simon Evans headlined, mixing new material with established winning material, and Seann Walsh closed the second act, throwing some hilarious new concepts (and shapes) at the audience to see what stuck – most of it. It was so much fun to see him throwing his entire physical self behind luscious new material. Supporting were the slick and personable Max Dickens; Mike Cox with a couple of interesting ideas but still an inexperienced delivery and a tendency to go to the safety gross laughter; the lovely Laurie Rowan, whose set was set askew by a lack of diction but hid a few gems; and the musical duo Horse & Louis whose songs were stronger than the incongruous sketch, demonstrating some original voices, if with a tendency to veer towards cheaper gross outs. The entire evening was hosted by likeable, chirpy, cheeky Michael Fabbri, who balanced and supported the evening’s mixed talents beautifully.
