John Holt & The Ruff Cut Band

Valentine’s was the perfect night to see the king of Lovers’ Rock. The trombone intro to ‘Help Me Make It Through The Night’ set the scene for Sir John to prove his voice was as sweet as it was forty years ago. ‘Morning Of My Life’ was an ideal backing for the smoochers but, cruelly, we only got snippets of ‘Ali Baba’ and ‘Time Is The Master’ when the veteran showman was courting requests. Thankfully ‘Never Never Never’ and ‘The Tide Is High’ were superbly executed in full and the people’s choice ‘Police In Helicopter’ finished a truly enjoyable set.
