Help plant trees in Brighton park for Queen’s jubilee

A hundred trees are to be planted in a Brighton park on Sunday to mark the Queen’s diamond jubilee.

The tree planting in Tarner Park, off Sussex Street, is being organised by the Friends of Tarner Park and Brighton and Hove City Council.

The Friends of Tarner Park will be serving refreshments at the event from 10am to 1pm on Sunday (19 February) and there will also be children’s games.

The 100 trees, including hazel and hornbeam, have been donated by the Woodland Trust.

Councillor Pete West, the council’s cabinet member for environment and sustainability, said: “We are grateful to the Woodland Trust for donating these trees and people are very welcome to go along to help with the planting.

“It promises to be a real community event.”

The new trees are part of a package of recent improvements to the park, carried out with the Friends of Tarner Park and other partners.

These include a camera obscura in a tower in the park, new plants and bird boxes, and new murals to brighten up the park.
