Passers-by brave fire to rescue Brighton man
Passers-by risked their lives to rescue an elderly man from a fire at his home in Woodingdean yesterday afternoon (Wednesday 15 February).
He was treated at the scene for the effects of breathing in smoke by paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service.
Two fire crews from Preston Circus, Brighton, and another crew from Roedean tackled the fire in Cowley Drive just after 3pm.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “When crews arrived they found severe smoke logging within the building and a fire on the ground floor.”
Firefighters put out the blaze and used a positive pressure ventilation fan to disperse the smoke.
