Vieux Farka Touré

The son of the great Ali Farka Touré sadly did little to step out of his father’s shadow at Komedia, delivering a strange set that often felt more like a jokey rehearsal than a proper performance. One can understand the need for guest stars on his latest album to add more variety since the style of one quick widdling guitar, drums and bass grew thin quite quickly and even felt sloppy and lazy. Although it was structurally dull, there were some moments of funky fun, and the crowd did seem to hear something more exciting than I did.
