Brighton and Hove students offered degrees in financial services

City College Brighton and Hove has teamed up with the Open University to offer a foundation degree in financial services.

An open event is being held in just under a fortnight for anyone who wants to find out more about the course and the qualification. It will also include a chance to meet the tutors.

The college said that the financial services industry was one of the biggest sectors in the local economy, employing more than 31,000 people in thousands of businesses.

American Express, Lloyds Banking Group, Legal and General, Family Investment and Domestic and General are among the bigger employers in the sector.

The big five and many of the smaller businesses in the sector want existing staff and potential recruits to have more skills and training, the college said.

The course can be studied flexibly and part-time to enable students to learn at their own pace.

Students would typically complete the foundation degree in three to four years of part-time study but it can be completed in as few as two years.

The open event takes place on Wednesday 7 March from 4.30pm to 6pm at City College’s Pelham Street site.

Chris Wellings, City College’s head of higher education, said: “We’re really excited about working with such a highly respected education provider as the Open University to deliver this course.

“For those already working in the financial services industry, this qualification provides the skills and knowledge to progress in their career but, importantly, it’s also open to those who want to enter employment in the sector.”
