Celebcity with Jo Brooks: Spice world

Mel C chats to students, Katie Price runs in Half Marathon, Sussex teams in FA Cup & Adele in a pub

Sporty Spice dropped into BIMM last week to chat with the students about music, football and acting. She explained how her latest album, The Sea, was inspired by a trip to beautiful Brighton! This will be the singer’s fifth album and she shows no sign of stopping soon, saying she’d love to pursue more acting roles after her successful six-month stint in the West End’s Blood Brothers. Of course, we couldn’t let her get away without a bit of a Spice Girls’ grilling and Juice’s Guy Lloyd was just the man for the job. She admitted to him that the girls had been approached to do something for the Queen’s Silver Jubilee (but not the Olympics), though she wouldn’t say who dug their (Louboutin-clad I’m sure) heels in and refused to do it. I wonder? She didn’t leave without apologising for her team beating Brighton at Anfield
– so kind of her to bring it up!

Jordan pushes through pain barrier
Congrats to Katie Price and Norman Cook for adding some celebrity glamour to this year’s Brighton Half Marathon. Our girl didn’t find it easy, running despite an agonising knee injury. Katie kinda collapsed over the finishing line, in a similar way we’ve seen her get out of cabs in the past following a boozy evening. Luckily, new ‘on-again’ boyfriend Leandro was on hand to lend some encouragement (via a translator of course)! She later tweeted she was in agony saying: “More filming today for my new reality show although today I can’t walk from yesterday’s run, boo hoo.” Despite this fact, Katie was able to step out in some killer heels the night before – what a trooper!

The magic of the cup
February saw two quite historic moments in Sussex sport as two teams took part in what is dubbed the most exciting and famous football competition in the world: the FA Cup.
Two of our Sussex clubs were involved, Crawley Town and Brighton & Hove Albion. I was lucky enough to get two tickets for Crawley’s sell-out tie against Premiership side Stoke City at the Broadfield Stadium in Crawley and on arrival my son and I tucked into a full English breakfast due to the early kick-off. We were in good company in the west stand as we spotted ex-Tottenham manager Gerry Francis, ex-Arsenal player Martin Keown and now ex-Crawley wonder scorer Matt Tubbs.
The game did not disappoint and had everything an FA Cup tie should have but the giant Stoke (have you seen the size of Peter Crouch?!) were just too strong for the Reds. Less said about the tie against Liverpool and Brighton the better, my neighbour and Albion player Liam Bridcutt had a bit of an own-goal nightmare but hey, as they say, that’s football!

Spotted!
Playing for Millwall against Brighton and Hove Albion the other week was – on first glance – TOWIE’s Mark Wright. Turned out to be his (scarily similar) brother Josh Wright, looking reem.

Singer, and dedicated Grammy collector, Adele popping down her Sussex local. The Partridge, in Partridge Green,
has seen the super-star settle down for a few cosy drinks while she moves into her new ten-bedroom home.

Ben Howard on Brighton beach. The Devon-born singer/ songwriter was no doubt seeing how our pebbles compared with their long sandy beaches. No contest clearly – who wants sand in their shoes?
