Soko

Previous visits to town were solo affairs but Miss Sokolinski brought a band to promote her debut album. The opening solo songs recalled her early demos but with a more reflective, folkier feel. Rightly reprimanding the talkers in the audience (unfortunately a problem throughout), several songs added violin to compliment her soft, dreamy vocals. The new songs had a lo-fi spaghetti western feel, seemingly now born on an analyst’s couch rather than a bedsit, and things livened up toward the end with Soko adopting Siouxsie howls over heavier backing. Not a vintage performance but the stronger songs stood up well.
